About Dementia Advice Service

Gateshead Citizens Advice's Dementia Adviser ensures that they receive very practical help to get the individual with dementia, their family and carers through various issues. They do so by providing support, information, advice and guidance in the following areas so people: understand their rights and responsibilities; can easily access advice about benefits and other social welfare issues; are able to claim their full entitlement to benefits; receive help with practical issues such as housing, aids and adaptations, employment (for example carers leave and flexible working), benefit appeals, money advice and budgeting; are empowered to challenge decisions, which have a negative impact upon them; understand where to go for help to include counselling and advocacy services; are signposted to services that provide social activities and peer support.
