The Bosch Unlimited 7 BCS712GB has plenty of features for the price, including two battery packs with a quick charging tool, LED lights to illuminate the dirt ahead, and a handstick ‘flex tube’ that bends so you can more easily reach under low furniture.

It's designed to automatically detect the floor type it’s being used on and adjust the suction accordingly. The container can only hold around 0.5 litres, so it will need to be emptied fairly regularly. The 3kg weight is about average for a cordless vacuum.

If you’re looking for a versatile vacuum cleaner, the Shark PowerDetect IP1223UKTDB could be just what you’re after. It has a hinged stick to reach under furniture and removable motor unit that can be used as a handheld cleaner.  

It comes with an upholstery nozzle, a crevice tool, a dusting brush and a car detailing kit with extra-small nozzles to get into your vehicle’s nooks and crannies. You’ll also find a bag to keep the accessories in.

Miele Triflex HX2

We like: It's quiet

We don't like: Fairly slow at charging

Although the Triflex HX2 has been around for a few years, it has some interesting features. Unusually, you can attach the power unit to the top or bottom of the vacuum depending on whether you'll be crouching to reach under furniture or stretching to clean up high. It can also be removed from the main body and used as a handheld vacuum.

It comes with an electro brush, upholstery nozzle, crevice tool, carpet brush bar and a nozzle holder to store the accessories and tools. It can also be mounted to the wall.

Dyson V16 Piston Animal

This flagship cordless stick vacuum cleaner from Dyson uses sensors to detect how much dust is being picked up, and adapts the power accordingly. Dyson’s new ‘All Floor’ floorhead can be used on carpets and hard floors, and its conical brush bars are designed to automatically detangle any long hairs it collects. 

It comes with a wall dock, mini turbo brush, combi dusting and upholstery brush and a crevice tool. You can increase the attachments to nine by adding a three-nozzle detail kit. And you can also add Dyson’s Submarine floorhead (sold separately) that mops the floor. Just bear in mind that none of the V16 Piston range’s accessories are compatible with other Dyson vacs.

Samsung Bespoke Jet AI Lite Pro Extra

We like: A versatile cleaner

We don't like: Fairly noisy

While this cordless Samsung vac has been cheaper in the past, this is still a good saving. It has a dual brush floorhead for carpets and hard floors, as well as a ‘Spray Spinning’ sweeper head for mopping. This is used with the reusable round anti-bacterial pads and disposable wet pads – a pack of 10 is included.

This model also empties itself when you place it in the floor-standing docking unit. All you'll need to do is empty the dock’s dustbag when it's full.

Corded vacuum cleaner deals

Shark NV602UKT

We like: Quiet

We don't like: Can be tricky to manoeuvre around furniture

This upright vac from Shark weighs 5.9kg and has a 2.8-litre dust capacity, which is about average for a corded vac and ideal for larger households. Its 8.4-metre plug socket to floorhead reach could leave you short in some scenarios though (some models have power cords of up to 12 metres).

The NV602UKT can be used in a detachable handheld mode, which is handy for cleaning stairs and tall surfaces. It also comes with a crevice nozzle, an upholstery nozzle, a furniture brush and a mini turbo tool for pet hair.

Shark Detect Pet Pro LA450UKT

This upright corded vacuum from the Shark Liftaway range can also be used as a handheld vacuum on stairs or car interiors – simply attach an accessory to the handle, such as a mini turbo brush or a 2-in-1 gap nozzle and dusting brush.

The floor head detects whether it’s on hard floor or carpet and adjusts the speed accordingly, and it’s designed to clean in both forward and backward directions. There’s an anti-hair-wrap brush designed to remove hair from the brush automatically, and an anti-odour cartridge.

Eufy Clean X8 Pro with Self-Empty Station

We like: Very easy to use and clean

We don't like: Struggles to climb high ledges

The X8 Pro is one of Eufy's more affordable robot vacs. In addition to the vacuum cleaning, it also has a mop function.

It docks into its self-empty station without you having to intervene, and it cleans the roller brushes every time it does so. You can adjust the frequency of emptying into the charging station via the app if you don't want this after every clean.

Samsung Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI+ Vacuum Cleaner

• Robot vacuum cleaner
• 2.5 litre dust capacity

We like: Intuitive app

We don’t like: Docking station is very bulky

Unlike its predecessor, the Samsung Jet Bot VR30T80313W, this model mops as well as vacuums, and the self-emptying dock makes the whole process properly hands-off. Do bear in mind that the docking station is bulky, though.

You can use the SmartThings app (requires a 2.4GHz wi-fi network) to customise your clean and specify any areas it should avoid. Samsung claims it runs for 180 minutes and takes five hours to charge.

How to spot a good deal on a vacuum cleaner

Humairaa Habib, Which? vacuum cleaner expert, says:

With some vacuums often on 'special offer', it can be hard to know which deals are genuine money savers. 

Stick to these golden rules to help get the best value with your next purchase.

• Don't fall for features and accessories Some models come with impressive-sounding features, for example, Flexology (a flexible cleaning tube), Lift-Away (a removable handheld unit), or Vax's QuickClean (also a removable unit). While useful, you'll most likely find similar features across many other brands, just with more conventional names. Models in the same range (for example, the Samsung Jet range) usually have the same core machine – the only difference is the accessories and supplied floor heads. An entry-level model typically costs about £100 less than a premium model with all the accessories.

• Check the price of similar models Many vacs have a basic package and a more expensive pet variant, which comes with a mini-tool for cleaning up after your furry friends. In some circumstances, you'd be better off buying the basic model and the pet tool separately. However, always check the prices of variants, because you might find the pet version on offer for less than the basic model.

• Check out the latest price data If a deal seems too good to be true, you can use price comparison sites such as PriceRunner and PriceSpy to check historical price data. The data should reveal how regularly a vacuum goes on sale (if it's on 'special offer' for most of the year, the offer isn't all that special), and whether the 'before' price is accurate. It's worth doing a quick Google search too because not all retailers' price feeds are picked up by these sites.

We've noticed that prices can rise in the months before big sales events such as Black Friday, Christmas sales or Cyber Monday, creating the illusion of huge savings on the day. 

Always check PriceRunner or PriceSpy to compare historical prices to find out of the model you're after is actually being sold at a low price.

Also keep in mind that cordless Sharks are sold with one, two or sometimes even three batteries.

If you opt for a package with extra batteries, bear in mind that you can buy spare batteries from the Shark website for around £70, so the deal only makes sense if the package is a similar price to the single-battery model.

If you live in a smaller property, you probably don't need extra batteries, as a single charge will last long enough to vacuum your home in one go. Any battery faults should be covered by the manufacturer's guarantee for the first two years.

Samsung vacuum deals

If you're looking to replace your old Samsung with a new model, don't forget to check the Samsung website for trade-in deals for your old appliance. They'll take your old vacuum, price it and then you'll be able to put the money towards a new model.

How to recycle your old vacuum cleaner

Some retailers will offer to recycle your old vacuum cleaner, although they can sometimes charge a fee for doing so.
