Parents pushing a Mamas & Papas Urbo pushchairIs the Mamas & Papas Urbo a Best Buy preloved buggy?

We’ve compiled our expert verdict on second-hand pushchairs to help you find a cheap, preloved Best Buy buggy for your baby. Our new reviews include original models from the likes of Bugaboo, Silver Cross, and iCandy that you may be able to pick up at a bargain price.

You don’t need us to tell you that having a baby can be an expensive time. But if you can find a second-hand buggy that’s still in good condition, you could save hundreds of pounds.

Some of the most popular pushchairs around – such as the original Babystyle Oyster, Bugaboo Cameleon and Mamas & Papas Sola – are now scarcely seen for sale in shops after being superseded by newer versions. But in some cases, the discontinued pushchairs outperformed the so-called ‘improved’ models in our rigorous lab tests.

Among the 12 buggies that we’ve picked out, six are Which? Best Buys. Log in to see which second-hand pushchairs you should look out for.

Buying a preloved pushchair

Once you’ve discovered which discontinued model would be best for you and your baby, the next step is to make sure that you find the best deal possible. Auction website eBay is a good place to start – although other options such as Amazon, Gumtree and Freecycle are also worth checking – and we’ve got great tips on grabbing a great deal.

Last minute bidding can help you snatch a bargain buggy, while searching for local ‘collection-only’ deals could help you take advantage of a limited market. And by using sites such as BargainChecker.com or Goofbid.com, you can comb eBay for spelling errors in the item name which will be less visible in search results and will therefore give you less competition when it comes to auction.

Our guide to second-hand pushchairs and prams contains plenty more tips, as well as a checklist of the safety checks that you should carry out before purchasing a preloved pushchair.
