Five designer pushchairs for 2016

Pushchairs for the most style-conscious parents

Dream of an Aston Martin but not got the budget? Perhaps an Silver Cross Surf Aston Martin will do the job. Or maybe you need something to accessorize your Diesel jeans? Bugaboo’s Diesel Denim Buffalo will complete your look perfectly.

We’ve taken a look at the biggest pushchair brands’ designer and limited edition collections. Some will be available in 2016 and some you can get your hands on now.

Designers have been creating special edition pushchairs for a long time: Bugaboo teamed up with the Andy Warhol Foundation to create some eye-catching designs and Maclaren has worked with brands such as Lulu Guinness, Orla Kiely and BMW. But today it seems like there are even more limited editions on the market with plenty of premium price tags to match. We take a look at what you can expect to see adorning the most exclusive shop window displays in 2016.

Most designer pushchairs are based on a standard model in the manufacturer’s range so you can read our pushchairs reviews to find out what we thought of them before you splash out.

1. Bugaboo by Diesel Denim

Earlier in the year Diesel took military inspiration to create a tough khaki special edition Bugaboo Cameleon3. Now it’s chosen to model the latest design on what Diesel is best known for – denim.

You can buy this special edition Bugaboo Buffalo with its anodised blue frame, denim fabrics and quirky details (such as the the central joint on the chassis that looks like a jeans rivet) for £1089. And you can also buy a special tailored denim fabric set for the Bugaboo Donkey for £140.

Find out what we thought of the Bugaboo Buffalo in our extensive lab tests.

2. Silver Cross Aston Martin

It could be called the Rolls Royce of pushchairs except it’s designed by Aston Martin. This special edition was actually launched in 2014 but a round up of premium designer pushchairs wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the Silver Cross Surf Aston Martin (2nd) Edition. And there’s still time to get your hands on one.

Just 600 were made and Silver Cross says it takes weeks to hand-build each one. Details that might please James Bond include the ‘morning frost’ white paint finish which is also available in Aston Martin car paint finish and the Alcantara suede used on the pram and seat unit which is also used on Aston Martin car roofs, as well as a cashmere baby blanket and sheepskin seat liner. All yours for an eye-watering £3,000 from Harrods or Silver Cross online.

3. Mamas and Papas Liberty Collection

Continuing with the Best of British theme, Mamas and Papas have collaborated with the most traditional of British brands, Liberty’s of London. Currently you can buy the Urbo2 pushchair, Armadillo and Armadillo Flip XT in a peacock feather print called Caesar and Ares. You can buy other accessories in this print too.

The Armadillo Flip XT Special Edition and Urbo2 will cost an extra £80 more than the ordinary models, with the Armadillo Special Edition costing an extra £50. So the difference in price isn’t too shocking to contemplate, but remember that these are special rather than limited edition so the number of pushchairs produced aren’t restricted.

4. iCandy DC

A favourite from the iCandy collection, the Peach 3, has undergone a luxury makeover with two different looks. The classic edition features a white chassis, tan leather bumper and handlebar and blue/green fabrics and can be yours for £1,000. The black has a tough, sporty look with matching matt black chassis and fabric and neon orange colour pops on the wheels, inside of hood and iCandy label. It costs £1,100 and the package includes the carrycot.

5 Cybex by Jeremy Scott

Cybex might be a new kid on the block in the pushchair world but it certainly isn’t a shy and retiring wallflower. The Jeremy Scott collection for 2013 featured a cartoony graphic print called Food Fight and this year he’s added the wings synonymous with his name to a range of Cybex pushchairs. Unfortunately, this collection is so new and hush hush we don’t have images yet.

Cybex has also created a quirky print called ‘Hide and Seek’ for its premium Priam pushchair, which features delicate cut out butterflies on a contrasting camouflage background.

Find out if it’s worth the price tag in our Cybex Priam review.
