Cheap as chips: Lidl launches new £50 air fryer

The Lidl Silvercrest Hot Air Fryer looks to rival the big brands with similar features but a much lower price

Lidl’s own-brand Silvercrest is known for launching cheap cooking appliances, and this new air fryer is sure to be popular with people looking for a healthier way to enjoy fried treats without breaking the bank.

The low-price products rarely stay on Lidl’s shelves for long though, as they’re snapped up by keen-eyed shoppers looking for a bargain. You’ll have to be quick if you want to take one home.

Silvercrest air fryer: how does it match up?

This isn’t the first time that Lidl has launched an air fryer, with the Lidl Silvercrest Air Fryer hitting stores earlier this year. The first air fryer followed the same style as Tefal models, with a paddle to stir food and a viewing window to check on the cooking.

The Silvercrest Hot Air Fryer on sale now is very different, with a Philips-style basket. Philips air fryers can cost well over £100, but do they really offer much more in the way of features?

See below how the Lidl Silvercrest Hot Air Fryer compares with the Philips Viva Collection Air Fryer HD9621/91.

How much should you spend on an air fryer?

The Lidl Silvercrest Hot Air Fryer impresses with its features, with many, such as dishwasher-proof parts, that tend to be reserved for models in the £100+ bracket.

However, these added extras don’t always guarantee a good performance. We’ve found models that look like the leading brands, but the chips come out limp, greasy and tasteless.

Lidl bargain: George Foreman grill

The air fryer isn’t the only bargain you can pick up in Lidl, as it’s also selling a George Foreman 5-Portion Grill for a very reasonable £19.99.

Much like air fryers, health grills offer a way to enjoy your favourite foods with a lower fat content. You don’t need to use any oil on the grill plates, and fat drains away during cooking into a separate drip tray.
