Hot drinks

There are a few coffee deals available this month if you're willing to sign up to loyalty schemes.

1. Daily free coffee for Waitrose loyalty members

Waitrose recently changed its loyalty scheme, so members no longer need to make a purchase to get a free hot drink.

How it works: Scan your myWaitrose barcode at a self-service coffee machine in Waitrose and Little Waitrose stores.

You can choose from an americano, cappuccino, latte, or tea, with dairy-free alternatives available. You’ll need to bring your own coffee cup. This offer isn’t available at Waitrose cafés or petrol stations.

2. Free drink at Gail's Bakery

Gail’s Bakery is offering a free welcome coffee to anyone who signs up for its loyalty scheme and downloads the app.

How it works: Once you've signed up, you’ll get a QR code by email or in the rewards section of the app. Show this at the counter to claim your drink.

You can choose from coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or iced drinks, and dairy-free alternatives are included. The free drink must be redeemed within two months.

3. Free hot drink at Greggs

If you download the Greggs app and register for an account, you’ll get a free hot drink as a welcome gift.

How it works: After signing up, you’ll find a free drink reward in the wallet section of the app. When ordering in-store, scan the QR code at the till.

You can choose from a regular-sized tea, latte, cappuccino, hot chocolate, or espresso. It must be redeemed within 31 days.

4. Free coffee at Ikea

Ikea might not be the first place you’d think of for coffee, but members of its loyalty scheme can get one every weekday.

How it works: Join Ikea Family for free, and you’ll be able to claim a free tea or filtered coffee in-store from Monday to Friday.

Meals and sweet treats

From doughnuts to kids' meals, there are plenty of ways to save in February.

5. Free Krispy Kreme doughnut

Krispy Kreme is giving a free original glazed doughnut to anyone who joins its loyalty scheme.

How it works: Download the Krispy Kreme app, and you’ll get a voucher to claim your free doughnut straight away.

When signing up, you’ll need to choose whether to redeem it at a Krispy Kreme store or a Tesco cabinet. The voucher expires after 30 days.

6. Free cake from John Lewis

John Lewis is offering new loyalty members a £5 e-gift card to use on a £50 spend, plus a voucher for a free hot drink and cake.

How it works: Sign up for My John Lewis online or in-store.

The voucher can be redeemed at John Lewis cafés, including Place to Eat, Espresso Bar, Mall Café, and Coffee Shop, but not at third-party outlets or most Waitrose branches (except Ipswich, Basingstoke, and Horsham).

7. Kids eat free deals

Some restaurants and pubs offer free meals for kids when you buy an adult meal, which could be a handy way to cut costs during February half-term. Each deal has different terms, so check the details before you visit.

  • Beefeater: two children under 16 can get a free breakfast every day with a paying adult during the school holidays.
  • Dobbies Garden Centres: a free children’s breakfast with any adult traditional or full breakfast, or a free child’s hot meal or pick 'n' mix lunch box with any adult main course.

  • Travelodge: up to two children aged 15 or under eat free for every full paying adult.

Kids' workshops and activities

Whether it’s learning about gardening, animals, or building with Lego, there are plenty of free workshops to enjoy this month.

9. Free pet workshops at Pets at Home

Pets at Home offers free My Pet Pals workshops designed to teach children about responsible pet ownership during the school holidays. The next sessions will be running from 1-23 February.

How it works: Simply search My Pet Pals on the Pets at Home website and then type in your nearest store. You’ll be able to see which sessions have availability.

You'll need to enter some personal information when you book, such as your email address, name and address, as well as the name and age of your child.

10. Free garden workshops at Dobbies Garden Centre

Dobbies Garden Centre hosts free Little Seedlings workshops aimed at inspiring children aged 4 to 10 to learn about gardening, wildlife, and the environment.

Workshops are typically held on the first Sunday of each month and during school holidays. For February half term, the workshops will be themed around flowers and why they are gifted to loved ones.

How it works: Register for a workshop on the Dobbies website by searching Little Seedlings Workshops.

You can choose from more than 40 locations across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland and check availability at your nearest venue.

To book, you'll need to provide some personal details, including your name and contact information, as well as your child’s age, name, and any access requirements.

11. Free Lego magazine

Lego offers a free subscription to its magazine, designed for children aged 5 to 9. The magazine is delivered directly to your home four times a year, with no cost for postage.

How it works: To subscribe, create a Lego account online. Once registered, provide your child's name, age, and your delivery address.

12. Free Lego botanical heart

You can build a free botanical heart at the Lego store between 8-9 of February – just in time for Valentine's Day.

How it works: Visit a participating Lego store on 8 February between 10am and 12pm, or on 9 February between 12pm and 2pm, to build and take home a Lego Botanical Heart.

The event is first-come, first-served, while supplies last. It's limited to one build per person and is intended for children aged six and above. Check your local store's event page for details.

13. Free WWT wetland centre pass

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is offering free admission to its UK centres from 31 January to 7 February 2025 to celebrate World Wetlands Day on 2 February.

How it works: Register for a free ticket on the WWT website by providing your name, email, and postcode.

Once you’ve secured one for each family member (except under-fours as they're free), you’ll be able to visit a nearby centre.

WWT hasn’t announced how many free tickets are up for grabs, but it is limiting the number available per centre, so it’s best to secure yours as soon as possible.

How to spot the best and avoid the duds

Scoring a great freebie can be a win, but there are a few things to watch out for to avoid scams or hidden catches.

If an offer looks too good to be true, it probably is, so follow these tips to stay safe:

  • Be wary of deals that ask for too much personal information or seem overly generous.
  • If you're unsure about a company, check its reviews on Trustpilot to see what others say.
  • Consider setting up a separate email address for freebies to avoid spam or unwanted marketing emails.
  • Only use verified sources and stick to official websites, trusted retailers, or apps from the App Store or Google Play.
