Together Energy

Together Energy claims to be one of the UK’s fastest-growing energy companies. But is it the right energy firm for you?

Together Energy joined the energy market in autumn 2016 and says it now has 60,000 customers. It initially only supplied customers in Scotland, but expanded to England and Wales in spring 2017.

Together Energy is based in Dunbartonshire and says it recruits more than 90% of its staff from the poorest 10% of postcodes in Scotland.

It says it offers affordable energy without compromising on service – our results reveal whether its customers agree.

Together Energy came 21st out of 30 energy companies rated by 7,429 members of the public in the annual Which? energy companies customer satisfaction survey.

Overall, Together Energy finished one position above the highest-ranked Big Six energy firm, SSE. 

Customers rated several areas of its service as poor, although they were more positive about its value for money.

Which? verdict on Together Energy

It’s the first time we’ve been able to include Together Energy in our survey, and it scores OK overall.

Customers weren't very encouraging when we asked them about specific aspects of its service. Together Energy's customers rated it as poor for the accuracy of its bills, its online and phone customer service, and its efforts to help them understand and reduce their energy use.

Customers felt its bills were slightly clearer than they were accurate, ranking clarity as ‘fair’.

Its unfavourable ratings are despite Together Energy’s good performance in our 2019 snapshot investigation into energy company call waiting times. It had the second-shortest call waiting time of 41 seconds on average.

Together Energy customers were most positive about it being good value for money, rating it four out of five stars in this area. This is comparable with companies placed much higher in our overall table.

Be aware that Together Energy states in its terms and conditions that if it launches a cheaper fixed deal, it may not allow customers on fixed deals to switch during their contract. Or it may charge customers to switch.

If customers don’t provide a meter reading when they switch to Together Energy, or don’t remember to submit a meter reading at least every four months, it states that it could increase your direct debit in line with industry forecasted consumption, or raise it by 20% (whichever is greater).
