Benchmarx sells both flatpack and pre-built ranges. We put the Benchmarx Essence Flatpack and the factory-assembled Grey Cabinet range through our rigorous lab tests.

We also surveyed Which? members and members of the general public to see how happy they were with their Benchmarx kitchen, and the service they received.

Like Howdens, Benchmarx is a trade kitchen supplier, so you'll need to find a kitchen installer to facilitate your project.

The overall score is based on the lab assessment of the units and feedback from our customer survey. The customer survey was conducted online in February and March 2025 among 4,580 Which? Connect members and members of the UK public who have bought a new kitchen in the past 10 years. Benchmarx sample size: 66.

We tested 21 kitchen ranges from various brands, and the best of all the kitchens we assessed achieved an overall score of 82%. The top nine all scored over 75%.

At the bottom end of the table, the lowest-scoring kitchen earned 63%. Six kitchens from four brands all got scores of less than 70%.

Scores for the two Benchmarx kitchens varied significantly – one scored 24 percentage points higher than the other.

Table notes: Lab assessment scores are calculated based on a kitchen’s performance in 19 tests across four key areas – quality of units, loading shelves, drawers and runners, and hinges. Ratings are combined to create an overall assessment score.

Our lab scores for all the kitchens we tested ranged from 89% to just 54%.

One of Benchmarx's kitchen ranges lost a significant number of points for its hinges.

How well do Benchmarx kitchens last?

As well as asking Benchmarx customers to rate their kitchens, we also asked them to share whether their kitchen showed any signs of damage or wear and tear.

We only asked people who reported buying their kitchen between 2015 and 2021, to get a sense of how they hold up in the long term.

Table notes: In our customer survey, conducted online in February and March 2025, we surveyed 2,496 Which? Connect members and members of the UK public who reported buying a kitchen between 2015 and 2021. Benchmarx sample size: 41.

On average, across all the brands we collected data for, 44% of survey respondents reported that their kitchen was showing signs of damage or wear and tear after at least five years of ownership.

The most common issue was the finish of the cabinets being scratched (15%) and the soft-close mechanisms failing (12%).

In contrast, just 34% of owners from the most reliable brand reported damage to their kitchen.

To find out how much you can expect to spend on a kitchen, we set up mystery shopping appointments to source prices for the kitchens we test.

Unfortunately, as Benchmarx only sells to trade, we are currently unable to assess prices for its kitchens.

We do have prices for other brands, including Ikea, Magnet and DIY Kitchens – check out their brand reviews for more information.

Benchmarx kitchen design service

A total of 23 Benchmarx customers reported having used its design service.

As we require a minimum of 30 responses to report on any aspect of a brand, this means that we're unable to give a rating for this service.

However, we have ratings for almost all the other kitchen brands we've reviewed, including Ikea and Magnet

Benchmarx offers free design appointments that you can book online at benchmarxkitchens.co.uk. You can have an initial consultation online, but its full design consultations only take place in person.

Benchmarx only sells to trade, so if you have a trader in mind before you start your buying journey, they can take care of the design process for you.

Benchmarx kitchen installation

Benchmarx is a trade kitchen supplier, which means it sells to tradespeople only. Therefore, you cannot fit the kitchen yourself.

Benchmarx also does not recommend installers, so you will need to find one yourself, although Benchmarx can guide you through the process.

To find a reliable fitter near you, use our free Which? Trusted Traders service.

How much does it cost to fit a Benchmarx kitchen?

To find out how much the average kitchen installation costs in 2025, we consulted the Building Cost Information Service (BCIS) database. It told us that the total cost of labour should be 20-30% of your total spend.

For a full breakdown of kitchen costs, including installation, labour and individual elements such as kitchen islands and worktops, read our guide to how much a new kitchen costs in 2025.

We recommend that you always get at least three quotes from different traders before you start any job, and get a fixed-price contract if possible (this means the prices can not go up except in pre-agreed circumstances).

Like Howdens, Benchmarx only sells to tradespeople – you cannot buy a kitchen directly from the company, so you'll need to find a kitchen installer to facilitate your project.

Benchmarx has the details of local installers, but it cannot recommend anyone directly to you.

The process of buying a kitchen is as follows:

  • Research your kitchen  Browse the ranges on the Benchmarx website, or visit your local branch to meet a designer and see the kitchens in person.
  • Measure up  Once you have an idea of the kitchen you want, measure your kitchen or use Benchmarx's free home survey service.
  • Time to design  Book a free online or in-person consultation to design your kitchen.
  • Install your kitchen  Benchmarx will work with your installer to find a time to deliver your kitchen.
