Magnet kitchens review

We put Magnet kitchens through our lab tests to see how they perform compared to other popular brands such as B&Q, Wren and Wickes.
We also surveyed Magnet customers about their kitchens, to see how they rate the company for service, product durability and more.
You can buy Magnet's kitchen ranges in a ready-to-assemble (flatpack) or pre-built format. The pre-built range is more expensive, but is designed to be more sturdy and durable.
We assessed both types in our expert testing lab. Read on to find out how they scored.

Table notes: Lab assessment scores are calculated based on a kitchen’s performance in 19 tests across four key areas - quality of units, loading shelves, drawers and runners and hinges. Ratings are combined to create an overall assessment score.
Our lab scores for all the kitchens we tested ranged from 89% to just 54%.
Two kitchen ranges from two different brands failed our hinges tests.
One of Magnet's ranges lost marks for the quality of its units.

How well do Magnet kitchens last?
As well as asking Magnet customers to rate their kitchens, we also asked them whether their kitchen showed any signs of damage or wear and tear.
We only asked people who reported buying their kitchen between 2015 and 2021, to get a sense of how they hold up in the long term.

Magnet kitchen costs
To find out how much you can expect to spend on a kitchen, we set up mystery shopping appointments to get prices for all the kitchens that we test.
We started by finding the middle-priced kitchen range for each carcass we tested (based on the median average).
Then we attended design appointments with every brand as if we were looking to buy a new kitchen. We asked brands to provide us with prices for the identified ranges in a twelve-unit kitchen, without any additional accessories (eg, worktop, sink, taps or appliances).
Kitchen | Range | Price | Discount applied |
---|---|---|---|
Pre-built | Ludlow Integra Dove Grey | £8,999.99 | 72% off Ludlow Integra range |
Ready to assemble | Ludlow Dove Grey | £7,105.00 | 78% off Ludlow range |
Table notes: These prices include 12 kitchen units, plus handles, cornices, plinths, pelmets and end panels. Prices include VAT and sales discounts. Prices were collected in May 2025, and are subject to change.
We were quoted between £7,000 and £8,000 for the Magnet kitchen we designed.
Bear in mind that this is based on one design appointment and is to be used as an indicator of how much you can expect to pay, rather than a final price.

Magnet kitchen installation costs
To find out how much the average kitchen installation costs in 2025, we consulted the Building Cost Information Service (BCIS) database. They told us that the total cost of labour should be 20-30% of your total spend.
For a full breakdown of kitchen costs, including installation, labour and individual elements such as kitchen islands and worktops, read our guide to how much a new kitchen costs in 2025.
We recommend that you always get at least three quotes from different traders before you start any job, and get a fixed price contract if possible (this means the prices can't go up except in pre-agreed circumstances).
