'A lot to like in Flexicover's top policy'
Dean Sobers, Which? travel insurance expert, says:
Ranking in the top 20% of policies rated, Flexicover's Diamond policy is a Best Buy.
It has a high cancellation limit of £5,000 and comes excess-free.
One thing to watch out for is that cancellation for events such as natural disasters and civil unrest aren't covered as standard with Flexicover. You'll need to buy additional cover if you want comprehensive protection for changes in FCDO advice. The only event covered without paying extra is strike action.
Full missed departure cover
If you've booked your flights separately, a delay with one leg of your journey could lead to you missing connections, with no recourse from the airline to get you back on track.
With three in 10 policies we checked, missed connecting flights aren't covered – meaning no recourse from the insurer, either. Fortunately, Flexicover's missed departure covers outgoing, connecting and returning flights.
Gold and Silver
With lower levels of cover than Diamond, and a £65 policy excess, Gold earned 60%, placing it near the middle of our table.
Silver, earning 58%, was in the bottom 40% of policies rated.
Is Flexicover good if you have a medical condition?
If you have a pre-existing medical condition, Flexicover may be able to cover it. To find out if it can and how it will affect the premium, you'll need to declare the condition when you run your quote.
Flexicover works with a medical screening company, Verisk, to ask customers about their medical conditions.
Flexicover isn't a specialist provider for customers with pre-existing medical conditions – but this doesn't mean it can't cover your medical condition at a reasonable price.
Flexicover's claims are handled by Collinson Claims – connected to Collinson Insurance, which underwrites the policy. Collinson Insurance is a trading name of Astrenska Insurance Limited.
According to the most recently published FCA data, Flexicover's underwriter Astrenska paid 90-95% of claims on annual European policies in 2024. This was a higher acceptance rate than the average of 86.30%.
It paid 90-95% of worldwide annual claims – again, better than the 84.50% average.
And it accepted 85-90% of single-trip claims. The average here was 80%.

Insurers will usually expect you to try to recoup lost costs (such as deposits) elsewhere before claiming with them – for example, checking with the travel provider if you're entitled to a refund or can move a cancelled trip. However, you can still call the insurer to let it know if there's a chance you will need to claim.
You'll need to provide your policy number when you call.
Potentially. We're fans of its Diamond policy – if a bit underwhelmed with its cheaper alternatives.
How we rate travel insurance
We analyse and rate 120 key elements of travel insurance policies to come up with the overall policy score. We assess how important each individual element is to travellers when choosing and using a travel insurance policy, and factor this in when calculating our total policy score.
Initially, we score all of the product elements out of five, reflecting how competitive each provider is in this area compared with other insurers. We then adjust the impact the more and less important elements have on the overall policy score.
Our 'Best Buy' badge recognises the individual products that stood out as being the most comprehensive in our analysis.
It doesn't reflect customer service. However, we do look at claims statistics published by the Financial Conduct Authority and complaints data from the Financial Ombudsman Service, where these are available. We won't give a Best Buy badge to providers shown to reject higher-than-average numbers of claims or that have a poor track record when it comes to complaints.
Policies named as Best Buys did well in our analysis of cover, with a policy score of at least 64%.
Additionally, Best Buy policies scored well consistently across different areas of cover. To make the cut, a policy needs to have scored at least three out of five points in two thirds of the features we compare (see 'Policy score' for more).
Lastly, all Best Buy policies must provide – either as standard or as an option – the following levels of cover as a minimum:
£5m cover for medical expenses – with emergency medical repatriation and some cover for emergency dental treatment
£2,000 cancellation and travel abandonment cover – including cancellation in the event that the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) advises against travel to your destination country because of natural disaster after you've insured your holiday
Cancellation cover because of the illness, injury or death of a close family member or a person you were planning to stay with
Cover for travel delays – including cover for missing your outgoing or returning flight due to delays
£1,500 cover for baggage
£2m personal liability cover
Every year, we go to as many providers as possible to gather information on a wide cross-section of the market. Our ratings and reviews are completely impartial — we’re not influenced by third parties. We work entirely on behalf of you, the consumer and nobody else.
