Which? reveals the most reliable brands for irons, kettles, toasters, breadmakers, coffee machines and food processors

Which? reveals the most reliable small kitchen appliance brands for irons, kettles, toasters and breadmakers, following the results of its latest survey.

Which? has also uncovered reliability ratings for some of the most popular brands of coffee machines and food processors. 

Over 12,800 Which? members responded to the 2012 small kitchen appliance reliability survey.

Irons reliability

The highest-scoring steam iron brand has an excellent reliability score of 90%. But one brand scored a poor 48%. 

You can find out how your favourite brand scores in the Which? irons reliability table. 

Brands featured include Bosch, Breville, Morphy Richards, Philips, Rowenta, Russell Hobbs, Tefal and Tesco.

Kettles and toasters

A kettle and toaster are often a cheap and easy way to brighten up a kitchen, so make sure the ones you buy will last the distance. 

The highest-scoring kettle brand has a good reliability rating of 83%. Four toaster brands gain an excellent, five-star reliability rating, with scores of over 90%.

Coffee machine and food processors

For the first time, Which? has reliability data on brands for coffee machines and food processors. 

The top-scoring coffee machine brand has a good reliability score of 77%, but not all brands score so highly. 

Which? reveals results for the major brands such as Gaggia, DeLonghi and Krups. 

The top-scoring food processor brand has an excellent reliability score of 97%. But not all brands perform quite so well.

Published results include major brands such as Bosch, Kenwood, Magimix, Morphy Richards and Philips.

Kitchen appliance – owners’ views

Reliability is an important part of owning a small kitchen appliance so Which? also gathers unique data on how happy people are with their brands. 

The Which? ‘Owners’ views’ pages reveal customer scores for different brands – this is a combination of owners’ satisfaction, and how likely they’d be to recommend the brand to a friend.
