Almost every well-known UK retailer is advertising a Black Friday deals bonanza for 2019 – and Argos is no different, with the promise of big discounts on everything from headphones and homeware to toys and TVs.
But at Which?, we know that sometimes what might appear like a brilliant bargain can just be one of the many mediocre products that have been loitering unwanted for months in the back of the stockroom.
Our expert reviews, which are based on independent, rigorous lab testing, sort the good from the bad, meaning you won’t end up with a Black Friday dud. And our expert pricing analysis means we can reveal which deals are genuinely likely to save you money.

Argos Cyber Monday wi-fi system deals
Netgear Orbi Whole Home Wifi System – £159.99
We liked: Excellent coverage, lots of features
We didn’t like: Nodes are quite large and intrusive
Argos isn’t flagging this as a special offer or announcing a reduction in price, but with other retailers charging £220 for this whole home wi-fi system we think that it’s a great deal.
This system (also known as the Orbi RBK50) includes two hardware units; one is the router that you connect to your broadband modem, the other is a satellite unit that you place around 12 metres away to extend the wireless coverage in your home. The router is compatible with the latest wireless AC standard, and includes support for both 2.4GHz and 5Ghz frequencies – helping to minimise the load on the network by spreading the wireless connections over two frequency bands rather than just one.
Argos Black Friday smartphone deals
Apple iPhone XR – was £629, now £549 (£80 off)
We liked: Outstanding camera, lightning-fast processor, superb display
We didn’t like: No 3.5 mm headphone jack or fingerprint scanner
The iPhone XR was a welcome treat for Apple fans when it launched last year at a much cheaper price than the flagship iPhone XS and XS Max.
Our tests revealed that the iPhone XR delivers the best battery performance compared to the XS and XS Max and now for a much lower price than its siblings, it’s harder than ever to resist buying it.
Apple iPhone 6s Plus 32GB – was £349, now £299 (£50 off)
We liked: Detailed and bright screen, Touch ID fingerprint reader, fast A9 processor
We didn’t like: Still pretty expensive, doesn’t have an expandable memory
Argos has knocked £50 off this Sim-free iPhone. While the iPhone 6s Plus has been around for a few years now, it still includes a fast processor and has a crystal-clear 5.5-inch display. And at under £300, it’s less than half the price of the latest iPhone 11 (from £729).
It’s available in a range of colours, including gold, rose gold, silver and grey.
Argos Black Friday smartwatch deals
Apple Watch S3 – was £199, now £189 (£10 off)
We liked: Plenty of fitness features and smart functionality, fantastic display
We didn’t like: Battery life could be better
Apple’s third generation smartwatch is packed with features. You can use it to answer calls, respond to messages or even to pay for purchases using Apple Pay.
Fitness fans will appreciate the heart-rate monitor, guided-breathing app, and built-in GPS for measuring how far you’ve run. You can measure how many calories you’ve burned and how many minutes of exercise you’ve done. And because it’s water-resistant, you can even use it in the pool.
The £10 discount isn’t huge but this is still the best price we’ve seen for this smartwatch.
Argos Black Friday laptop deals
Lenovo IdeaPad S130 – was £199.99, now £119.99 (£80 off)
We liked: Thin and light design, long battery life
We didn’t like: Mediocre screen, poor speakers, not the fastest
The IdeaPad S130 was one of Lenovo’s cheapest laptops, even before this reduction.
It’s a compact 11-inch model that weighs 1.1kg and runs on Windows 10 S. It’s not the most stylish or speediest laptop, running on a dual-core Intel Celeron processor with 4GB of Ram. But its ultra-lightweight and compact design should appeal to anybody who wants a laptop for basic tasks that they can easily take on the move.
Asus E203 – was £200, now £150 (25% off)
We liked: Thin and light design
We didn’t like: Not much storage in the model we tested
Always a popular choice, this Asus is down to just £150. The model we tested only had 32GB of storage, but the one here, on sale in Argos has a much more generous 64GB, which should avoid any irritating issues when running out of space while trying to update Windows 10.
Argos Black Friday TV deals
Samsung 55-inch UE55RU7020 Smart 4K TV – was £429, now £399 (£30 off)
We liked: Sharp picture, nicely balanced colours and contrast, decent sound
We didn’t like: HDR doesn’t improve the picture, no PVR, old-fashioned remote
The discount on this TV (£30) isn’t huge but this is still a great deal for a 55-inch 4K TV. And this isn’t a case of Argos trying to shift old stock – the Samsung UE55RU7020 only went on sale this year.
This TV packs in plenty of features, including 4K, HDR10 and HDR10+ support alongside access to apps and catch-up services through Samsung’s Tizen smart-TV interface.
Argos Black Friday oven deals
Indesit ID60C2 60cm electric oven – was £349.99, now £299.99 (£50 off)
We liked: Two spacious ovens, preheats quickly, cooks evenly
We didn’t like: Poor energy efficiency
The Indesit ID60C2 double electric oven includes a main fan oven, a conventionally heated top oven with grill, and a four-zone ceramic hob – so there are plenty of options when it comes to cooking.
There’s plenty of room inside both ovens, which means you’ll be able to fit a roast chicken or casserole in the top oven, and a turkey and separate tray of roast potatoes in the main one.
It’s available at this price in black or white (the stainless-steel version hasn’t been reduced)
Indesit ID60G2K 60cm gas oven – was £359.99, now £299.99 (£60 off)
We liked: First-class grill, quick-to-heat oven
We didn’t like: The main oven gets hotter than the set temperature
The Indesit ID60G2(W) freestanding gas cooker has two ovens and a four-burner gas hob. It’s usually available for around £340, so the Argos price of £299.99 includes a decent reduction.
This cooker includes an excellent grill. The main oven is pretty roomy – you’ll be able to cook the Sunday roast with a big turkey and a tray of roast potatoes – while the smaller secondary oven is still large enough for a joint of beef or a roast chicken.
It’s available in black or white.
Argos Black Friday cordless vacuum cleaner deals
Dyson V7 Motorhead – was £299.99, now £199.99 (£100 off)
We liked: Good on carpets and hard floors, able to tackle any type of dust or grime
We didn’t like: Short battery life on the most powerful setting
The V7 is Dyson’s main entry-level cordless vacuum cleaner, sitting between the Dyson V6 and V8 ranges.
It promises cord-free and hassle-free cleaning, and has 75% more brush-bar power than the Dyson V6, plus it comes with a fluffy floorhead specifically for hard floors.
And, like all Dyson cordless vacuums, it has a detachable handheld unit that’s great for using in hard-to-reach places.
Dyson V11 Absolute – was £599, now £499 (£100 off)
We liked: Easy to use, real-time battery life countdown
We didn’t like: Very expensive
This is Dyson’s flagship model, with a digital control display, 60-minute battery life and auto cleaning mode, which automatically adjusts suction power for the surface you are cleaning, saving you the hassle and optimising your cleaning time.
The price hadn’t really dropped at all until a couple of weeks ago, when this offer first appeared. It’s back for Black Friday weekend. If you want the ultimate in cordless cleaning, this is the best price we’ve seen.

Argos Black Friday soup maker deals
Ninja Hot Blender and Soup Maker (HB150UK) – was £149.99, now £99.99 (£50 off)
We liked: Wide choice of programs, clear control panel, auto-clean setting
We didn’t like: Big and heavy
The Ninja Blender and Soup Maker can cook and blend homemade soups all in one appliance. It has eight pre-set programs for hot and cold recipes and can also chop and sauté your ingredients.
This substantial device can make up to 1.4 litres of soup, or 1.7 litres of smoothie, in one go. And it has an automatic keep-warm function that will turn on after cooking plus a handy auto-clean program to ready it for future use.
Morphy Richards 501021 Compact Soup Maker – was £49.99, now £34.99 (£15 off)
We liked: Can make smaller quantities than most, compact design makes it easy to store and clean
We didn’t like: No sauté, keep-warm or auto-clean settings
This stainless-steel and black plastic soup maker is designed for smaller households. It’s noticeably more compact than most rival devices but can still make between 0.8 litres and 1 litre of soup in one go – enough for about three starter-sized bowls or two larger portions.
It has very simple controls: just two pre-set programs for soup (either smooth or chunky), one program for blended drinks, such as smoothies or milkshakes, and a manual blending button. And it’s very fast, taking less than 20 minutes to make smooth soup.
