Whether you’re treating yourself to the latest laptop or replacing a temperamental tumble dryer, how do you know which shop to choose?
Everyone wants a good price, but not at the expense of a shonky product, rude staff, dodgy deliveries or a guarantee barely worth the paper it’s printed on.
That's why each year, we ask thousands of shoppers about their experiences of buying tech and home appliances in-store and online from big and lesser-known retailers.
Using our unique research, we can reveal the best stores in 2025 for household items, big and small. You can jump to the section you need using the links below:

Join Which? Our research reveals three brands that can cater to your tech and appliance needs in one place.
Samsung is a Which? Recommended Provider (WRP) for home appliances and for tech.
It’s had a stellar year, leaping from eighth place in 2024 to topping the home appliances table in 2025. It got top marks for everything – from value for money to the choice of appliances.
It comes in an impressive fourth place for tech purchases, too, and is also great for refurbished tech products.
One customer said: ‘It offers high-quality products and quality services at affordable prices.’
Another added: 'The website was easy to navigate, the product arrived on time and everything was well packaged. The purchase process was smooth, and I got exactly what I ordered without any hassle.'

John Lewis is a great all-rounder, finishing in a strong second place for both tech and appliance shopping.
Shoppers value its great reputation and reliable service, with many people saying the top-quality products and excellent customer service are what draws them to John Lewis.
It’s been a big year for the retailer, with a new chairman (ex-Tesco boss Jason Tarry) and a decision to bring back its ‘never knowingly undersold’ price promise. But losses in the first half of the year nearly tripled, despite a 4% rise in sales, after restructuring costs and new tax and regulatory charges.
One shopper said: ‘I can always trust John Lewis – it is usually very fair with its customers. The quality of what it sells is good, and there’s usually a good choice whatever I’m buying.’
Customers also like the after-sales care it offers. It’s perhaps no surprise, then, that John Lewis is a WRP for both tech purchases and home appliance products.
Although it may be best known for selling appliances, AO now also sells a range of tech products.
It does well in both our league tables, being named a WRP for both, and is particularly highly regarded for its huge range of products.
Shoppers also love its fast delivery and efficient website. One shopper explained: 'It stocked the laptop I wanted at the most competitive price; I have bought from it before and I trust it. Reputable company, great service.'
Some customers picked out its loyalty scheme for special mention – for £39.99 a year, you get free and unlimited delivery, free unpacking and removal of your old appliance, plus member-only savings.
Some said this paid for itself, while others saw it as a potential subscription trap, particularly if you forget to cancel it.
If tech is your focus, these stores come highly recommended.

Yet again, Richer Sounds triumphs in our league table of tech retailers.
Shoppers love the choice of products and the quality it offers. They’re also happy with the customer service and overall value for money at Richer Sounds.
But what really stands out is the staff and their specialist knowledge, making customers feel valued and confident in their choices.
One happy customer told us: ‘It feels like a specialist service – staff really know what they're talking about.’ Other shoppers praised the price-match promise and the warranties.
All this means it's a Which? Recommended Provider.
Shoppers appreciate the choice available at HP.com, despite the fact that it sells only its own products.
It might not have any physical stores, but that doesn’t put customers off. In fact, they like how easy its website is to use, along with its reliable deliveries.
We found overall that most tech shoppers order online – only a quarter bought in-store.
HP is one of several manufacturers selling direct to customers that shoppers have rated highly this year. One said: ‘HP makes the product so, given its competitive pricing, it makes sense to purchase from it.’

Yet again, this network of independent appliance specialists performs excellently.
Euronics has a loyal following among customers, who especially love its knowledgeable and helpful staff.
Many of its branches are family-run businesses that have been around for decades.
One customer said: ‘It offers great advice and customer service. It isn’t just interested in selling; it does the right thing for the customer.’
Shoppers praised its fast delivery and reliable reputation, which is important as many appliance purchases are made in a hurry when the old one breaks down.
Lakeland is near the top of the table yet again. Shoppers rave about its three-year guarantee.
It’s great for both shopping in person and online, with an easy-to-use website and stores that shoppers love to linger in.
One said: ‘It offers quality goods by pleasant helpful staff in a local store. A lovely place to browse.’
Earlier this year, Lakeland underwent a management buyout funded by Hilco Capital, former owner of HMV and Homebase.
Shoppers trust Next and value its reliable reputation. They love the choice of products and the high quality on offer.
While it doesn’t sell some of the bigger appliances, it does have a range of kettles, toasters, microwaves, air fryers and the like.
One customer said: ‘It offers high quality and innovative products, plus it has a good returns policy and customer support.’
Another added: ‘Its selection isn’t huge, but its speed of delivery is good and you know there will be no problems if you need to return an item.’
It performs so well, and has such good returns policies, that we’ve made it a WRP.
Floorcare specialist Vax does well across the board, with customers particularly rating the choice and quality of its products, plus its smooth deliveries and easy-to-use website.
One customer said: 'I found the whole experience positive, from using the website to placing the order, delivery and using the products. There were useful online videos, and when I needed to contact customer support, I was very satisfied with the help given.'
Shoppers really rate the quality of products at Ikea, another of our WRPs.
One customer said: 'The product was well designed, reasonably priced and easy to assemble. The in-store experience was very helpful, and the staff were knowledgeable. Delivery was on time, and the item met my expectation in terms of quality and function.'
Another added: 'It is simple, functional and wallet-friendly. It delivered exactly what I expected at a fair price, with a durable design and easy, self-service pickup.'
Every year, we survey thousands of Which? members and members of the public about their experiences of shopping with some of the UK's best-known stores and websites, as well as with lesser-known brands.
Our star ratings reveal how customers rated each retailer on a range of different measures, from product range and value for money to customer service during and after purchase.
We also name Which? Recommended Providers (WRPs) for each category. Retailers must meet strict criteria to make the grade, including excellent customer scores and at least four stars for customer service and delivery, plus three for value for money.
So we can be sure we're recommending the best, we also check their returns policy and T&Cs; any retailers that give unclear or misleading information about returns are excluded.
