Best foot spas 2025: to relax and pamper tired feet

Our testers reviewed foot spas from HoMedics, Renpho and more with independent tests on ease of use, heat retention, noise levels and relaxation

The best foot spas will leave your feet feeling blissfully soothed. The worst are little better than a bucket of hot water.

Make sure you give your feet the treat they deserve with our independent reviews.

We test each foot spa machine to see how relaxing it is, check how well it maintains a steady temperature and assess noise levels. We've covered all the big brands, including Beurer, Homedics, Revlon, Rio and more.

Three foot spas stood out from the rest and merited our Best Buy recommendation, and we also found a Great Value option that gives you well-soothed feet for less.

How our tests find you the best

We've tested 16 foot spas

Standing on your feet all day? Our testers kick back and relax with each foot spa we review so you can find the best machine to pamper tired feet.

Noise

No one wants a rumbling foot spa making a racket while you’re watching TV. That’s why we use a decibel meter to measure how loud each one is.

Heat retention

We use a temperature probe to measure heat retention so you can ensure you're slipping your achy feet into perfectly warm foot spa.

We also test...

Temperature accuracy and how easy the foot spas are to fill, empty and move around your home.

How we test foot spas

Which? expert foot spa relaxation test: man in jeans with bar feet in foot spa

We select the most popular foot spas from UK retailers (including Argos, Boots and more), and recruit a panel of real testers to rate and review them, as well as conducting tests on basic measures such as heat retention.

We buy all the products we test and regularly revisit the foot spas on sale to see if there are any new models worth testin,g and when we find them we do.

Heat retention

Which? expert foot spa heat retention test: tester in green shirt looking at temperature probe screen, with its probes in a foot spa

We use temperature probes to assess how well each spa retains heat. We also check the accuracy of the temperature settings.

Our tests have uncovered foot spas with thermostats that aren't accurate, so the water is colder or warmer than the temperature you set. We make sure to highlight this in our reviews so you can find a reliable foot spa at the temperature you like.

Noise

Which? expert foot spa noise test: tester in green shirt placing decibel meter near foot spa, using tape measure to measure distance between the two

We also use a decibel meter to measure how noisy each foot spa is in use.

Some are whisper quiet but others will have you turning up the volume on your TV.  We found that one made an annoying high-pitched whining noise, which really undermines the relaxation element.

Relaxation

Our testers rate each foot spa for how relaxing the overall experience is, the extra features such as temperature settings and motorised rollers, and any annoying noises.

Ease of use

We assess how easy each foot spa is to fill and empty, as well as how easy they are to lift, move and carry.

The best are lightweight with a carry handle or handy extras like a plug or fold-away design, but some are heavy with no handle, making them tricky to move around the home easily.

Why you can trust us: at Which? we're free from manufacturer and retailer influence. Find out more about our impartiality and how your support helps us to stay editorially independent.

Are foot spas good for you?

Soaking your feet in warm water can help to soften corns and calluses, as well as reducing general aches and pains.

We asked Emma McConnachie, a practising podiatrist and spokesperson for the Royal College of Podiatry, whether there are people who should avoid using a foot spa.

She advises: 'Anyone with poor circulation or sensation in their feet should be cautious when using one, or avoid them'.

'When the blood flowing to your feet is of lower volume or poorer quality, it can affect the function of the blood vessels and nerves in your feet.'

'Your sensation may be altered, making you unaware that your nerves are not detecting the temperature of the water, increasing the chances of scalding your feet and damaging the skin.'

What can people with poor circulation do?

Using a walking stick

Emma McConnachie says: 'Walking, even small amounts, every day can help increase the blood flow through your lower limbs.

'Exercises where you rotate your ankles in circles can also help. While sitting, lift one foot slightly off the ground and draw a circle in the air with it.

'Do this five times clockwise then five times anti-clockwise. Repeat with the other foot. This can be carried out twice a day, every day.

'Try to avoid sitting still for prolonged periods, either elevate the limbs with a footstool or ensure that you get up frequently and wander around to keep the foot and lower limb pumps working efficiently.'

Can diabetic people use foot spas?

Diabetes can affect the feeling and circulation around your feet. Therefore, the NHS advises that you avoid exposure to direct heat from foot spas, hot baths, hot water bottles and open fires.

Best foot massagers - other options for tired feet relief

How to buy the best foot spa

Foot spa
  • Motorised rollers add to the relaxing experience of a foot spa in a way that non-motorised rollers struggle to replicate. However, they may be too intense or uncomfy if you have tickly or sensitive feet.
  • Avoid overfilling as moving your feet on non-motorised rollers can cause splashes. We'd recommend not filling to the maximum line when this is the case, to avoid too much water escaping.
  • Keep-warm settings are useful for maintaining water temperature, but often can only keep it at one temperature. But some foot spas enable you to choose the exact temperature, making them much more versatile. We recommend setting it at a low temperature and turning it up until it's at the heat you'd like.
  • Carry handles make it easier to carry a bulky or heavy foot spa around your home.
  • Check the maximum foot size in our reviews, as some foot spas aren't big enough for those with larger feet to use.

How to clean a foot spa

  1. Make sure to unplug the appliance before cleaning.
  2. Rinse the unit out with water.
  3. Use mild cleaning liquids to clean it. We used Milton sterilising tablets. Avoid using solvents, abrasive cleaners and harsh detergents.
  4. Wipe the foot spa down with a soft, damp cloth.
  5. Once dry, store your appliance in a cool, dry place.

Remember to be hygienic when using a foot spa. Don't use it if you've got wounds or cuts on your feet, and don't share water between users.

Clean it in between uses to reduce the chance of bacterial build-up.
