Last-minute Father’s Day gift ideas: tech and grooming bargains

From electric shavers to fitness trackers, we weigh up some of the best Father's Day gift offers on the high street

Last-minute Father’s Day gift ideas: tech and grooming bargains

If you’re having a last-minute panic about what to get your dad for Father’s Day, Which? can help.

We’ve scoured some of the leading high street retailers to find some of the best discounts available on grooming products, personal care gifts and handy tech.

With Sunday looming, we’ve mainly opted for deals where you’re able to reserve online and collect in-store. If your dad doesn’t mind waiting a little longer for his present, though, it’s worth seeing if you can track down an online-only offer for any less.

Electric shaver deals

An electric shaver is a classic last-minute gift, and there are plenty on offer to choose from in the run-up to Father’s Day.

The Braun Series 3 Shave&Style 3010BT is a foil electric shaver that can be used wet or dry and comes with five comb attachments and a precision trimmer. It’s currently on offer at Argos and Boots for £59.99, a £30 saving on the RRP, but Tesco is selling it for just £45.

Read our full review of the Braun Series 3 Shave&Style 3010BT to see if it’s actually a gift worth giving.

Boots’ ‘Offer of the Week’ on the Braun CoolTec CT2s Wet&Dry shaver could be a contender. Boots is heralding a massive £120 discount on this shaver and selling it for £79.99. It’s five years since it was released and it isn’t very widely available anymore, but you’re unlikely to find it anywhere near as cheap as this anytime soon.

We tried it out when it first went on sale, so be sure to check out our first look review of the Braun CoolTec CT2s before committing to buy.

If price isn’t a concern, you may find yourself considering the Braun Series 9 9290cc, which, with a RRP of £375, is one of the most expensive electric shavers on the market. It has four cutting elements in the shaving head, a digital display in the handle to show you how much battery time is left and comes with a cleaning dock that doubles as a charger.

If you decide on this one and absolutely need it for Sunday, then Superdrug is the place to go. It is selling it for £220, compared with the Boots offer of £250.

But bear in mind you can currently pick it up online from Amazon and Robert Dyas (online only) for around £210, so you could save even more if you’re able to wait a couple of days more before giving your gift.

Electric toothbrush deals

Perhaps not the first thing that springs to mind when you’re considering a Father’s Day gift, but there are some decent deals knocking about that could be worth a look if Pops needs a new brush for his chops.

The Oral B Genius 9000 Black is a smart electric toothbrush that uses Bluetooth to connect to the Oral-B smartphone app. The app has a full range of functions designed to give users a more comprehensive brushing experience.

It’s currently on offer for £100 at Argos and Superdrug. That’s a decent saving, and it hasn’t been much cheaper than that at any point in the last 12 months. But be sure to read our review of the Oral-B Genius 9000 to find out if it will be £100 well spent or wasted.

If you’re looking to spend less, there are plenty of options. Asda’s Pure Hygiene may not be on offer right now, but at £14 it could still represent a bit of a bargain. And if half-price deals do float your boat, you can buy the Oral B Pro 600 Sensi Ultrathin from Robert Dyas for £20, down from £49.99, or from Boots for £24.99.

Fitness tracker deals

For dads who like to stay active (or could do with a little motivation to start), now is a great time to grab a fitness tracker at a discount.

Currys PC World has the Goji Go on sale for £24.99, down from its original price of £49.99. This budget-priced fitness tracker can keep an eye on steps taken, distance covered and calories. It partners up with the Goji Go smartphone app for Android and iOS to help you keep track of your fitness journey. See our full Goji Go Activity Tracker review for more details.

Got a bigger budget? In that case, consider the Garmin Vivofit 3. It’s £50 from Currys PC World (down from £59.99) and comes with straps in a range of designs and shapes. This fitness buddy can measure sleep duration, floors climbed and calories burned. Head over to our Garmin Vivofit 3 review to see how it scores.

Headphones deals

Treat your dad to a top-notch pair of headphones so that he can enjoy his favourite music on the move. We’ve tested a range of big-name brands, paying close attention to audio quality, comfort and battery life (for Bluetooth models).

The JBL T450BT headphones are £29.95 on Amazon, down from £40. You can take calls using these wireless on-ear headphones thanks to a built-in microphone, while buttons on the earcup let you control your music without having to use your smartphone. They’re foldable and lightweight, too. Our JBL T450BT review takes a closer look at the sound quality on offer.

Meanwhile, Currys PC World has the Sennheiser CX 2.00 headphones on clearance for just £17. These in-ear headphones comes with an in-line remote and hands-free calling functions, doing an excellent job of blocking out external sound. VR headset deals

The World Cup is finally here, and for the first time the BBC is broadcasting the headline-grabbing fixtures via virtual reality. If you have a VR headset, you’ll be able to take a seat inside the stadium to get an up-close view of the action.

Samsung’s 2nd-generation Gear headset is compatible with various Samsung mobiles, including the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, Note 5 and S6. Amazon has knocked it down from £99 to an enticing £25 – cheap enough to take a hit on express delivery. Its foam cushioning means you can be comfy while you’re exploring virtual worlds, and this model has a slighter wider field of view than its predecessor, meaning you can see more without moving your head. Our Samsung Gear VR (2017) first look review has more.

Smart home hub deals

With a smart home hub sat in your living room, you can control your smart gadgets and play music just by using some basic voice commands. Currys PC World has the Google Home Mini on sale at £39.

The Home Mini is powered by Google Assistant, and you can use the smart home hub to check traffic conditions, film times, news headlines and more. Find out more with our Google Home Mini review.

Battling against the Home Mini for a spot in your home is Amazon’s Echo Dot smart hub. Amazon has it on sale for £40, down from £50. The key selling point is Alexa, a voice-controlled assistant primed to provide information and complete tasks for you. You can connect a range of third-party devices, including Samsung SmartThings peripherals and Philips Hue light bulbs.
