Southgate Rotary Memory Cafe is open monthly and it provides a drop-in, social environment for people living with dementia, accompanied by their carers. Apart from entertainment and activities for people living with dementia, Dementia Navigators from Age UK Enfield will be on hand to offer advice and guidance to carers. The cafe is intended to provide stimulation for the users and to alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation. It will also provide an opportunity for carers to exchange experiences with each other and talk to experienced volunteers or a person in similar circumstances. Southgate Rotary club members, all of whom are Dementia Friends, run the cafe with an experienced Cafe Activity Leader. This Memory Cafe is operated by the Rotary Club and not provided by an external organisation. It is part of the Rotary Club's strategy to re-engage in providing humanitarian service within the community.
