Buy the best fridge and freezer

Which? refrigeration appliance expert Jess O’Leary says: ‘A fridge, freezer or a combined model is one of the most expensive home appliances you’ll buy, so it makes sense to invest some time searching out the best one, both in terms of performance and one with features that suits your lifestyle and your kitchen.

‘The best models chill groceries quickly and freeze food fast, so we measure the cooling speed of each fridge and freezer under lab conditions. We test how even the temperature is inside the fridge to make sure there are no warm pockets or icy patches, and we measure how well insulated the freezer is by seeing how long it keeps food frozen in a power cut.’

Which? experts also check the things you can’t tell just by looking at these appliances in the shop, such as how noisy it is and how easy it is to defrost.
