A new kitchen is a big investment – so it makes sense to choose a brand that customers love and a kitchen that was rated highly in our lab assessments.
We assessed 21 kitchens from all the big-name brands in our lab. We also asked 3,848 kitchen owners to rate the brand they bought their kitchen from and tell us how they found and the process of buying it.
Only the best kitchens from highly-rated brands have earned our sought-after Best Buy.
Our overall scores incorporate both lab assessment results for the kitchen units and customers' overall brand feedback to give you a rounded view of buying and owning a kitchen.
Below we’ve listed all of the kitchen ranges that we tested, alongside their lab assessment score. The table also shows brands' customer score and ratings for customer service and how well their kitchen lasted, based on our customer survey. The overall score takes into account both the lab assessment results for the named kitchen and customer feedback about the brand.
Kitchens from only four brands were named Best Buys. The top overall score was 81%, while the lowest-scoring kitchens gained 62%. All our Best Buys scored more than 75% overall.

Kitchens from the biggest brands were sent to our lab to find out how well built they are and how they stand up to everyday use from the whole family.
Many of the national kitchen companies each sell one or two kitchen ‘carcasses’ (ie the basic cabinets and drawers) which they use across all of their kitchens. Different doors and accessories are added to them depending on which range you choose.
For each different carcass, we looked at a drawer unit, a floor cupboard unit and a wall unit, both with shelves.
In the table below we've listed the overall lab assessment score (the same as above) with more detail from different tests. The highest-scoring kitchen gained 88%; more than 20 percentage points more than the lowest lab score.
