Who is Inghams?

Lakes and mountains specialist Inghams provides skiing, walking, cycling and escorted tour holidays at a range of locations in Europe and Canada. They also specialise in tailor-made Italian escapes. 

Which? verdict

A solid choice for ski, lakes and mountain vacations, holidaymakers give Inghams top marks for their customer service and say their holidays match their descriptions.

What's Inghams like?

Despite being one of the pricier providers in our survey of package holiday companies, with an average cost per day of £125 for short-haul trips, customers still scored Inghams four out of five stars for value for money. And the travel company excelled when it comes to customers’ expectations of trips, scoring the full five stars for the description of the holiday always matching reality – for both beach holidays and ski breaks. Indeed, a few customers actually felt their holidays ‘exceeded expectations’.

Customer service, however, seemed to vary depending on the type of holiday booked. Customers who enjoyed a beach/resort break scored Inghams the full five stars, with one happy holidaymaker commenting that the company accommodated all their requests and even offered suggestions to help reduce the cost of the holiday. Winter sports fans, however, only gave the company three stars for customer service for ski holidays. One customer commented that they felt the service was poor: ‘Its ticketing service is a nightmare - it sent them out far too late and had to be chased twice.’ 

That said, Inghams still sits top of our results table for its skiing getaways, beating rivals British Airways Holidays and Crystal Ski Holidays. Its winning performance here is no doubt down to experience. The company was set up more than 85 years ago by Walter Ingham, a man who was passionate about outdoor activities and pioneered the ski holiday business.

Did Inghams refund customers during the coronavirus crisis?

When the pandemic stopped travel, Inghams offered a date or location change, with the option of a refund if customers requested it. For those simply not wanting to travel, alternative dates were offered, even if the original holiday went ahead as planned.

Should I book with Inghams?

Across the board, Inghams scores really well. There’s no better choice for skiing trips, but for beach holidays you’ll find a greater array of destinations with cheap and cheerful Jet2 Holidays. Alternatively, if you’ve a bigger budget, choose Kuoni and Trailfinders for superior service and bespoke holidays.
