Lemonade’s buildings cover scored 73% in our analysis, which placed it in the top 40% of policies we rated and earned it a Best Buy.
And for contents it earned 70%, just above average (68%) but falling a fraction short of our Best Buy threshold of 71%.
If a member of your household is away studying, they get to take some of your insurance with them: students' contents are covered while temporarily stored at their student accommodation.
Damage caused by floods and storms is covered, whether it affects your main property or outbuildings (for example a shed or garage) and unlike some policies, storm damage affecting fixed items in the open – such as a hot tub – is also covered.
On the downside, Lemonade’s contents cover doesn’t cover business equipment, which could become an issue if you work at home.
If you make adjustments to your policy or even cancel it before renewal, Lemonade won’t charge admin fees.
However, as with half of the policies we rated, customers paying for their cover in monthly instalments will be charged more than those paying in one go.

Want to pay monthly? Lemonade charges higher premiums for those who pay monthly, so you might be better off paying annually on an interest-free credit card.

We think Lemonade is worth considering for its Buildings cover (for which it received a Best Buy), though its contents cover stood out less.
As always, check that its cover meets your requirements but, if the price is right, it could be worth the purchase.
