Esure’s ‘Core’ home insurance policy received mediocre scores in our analysis. Its buildings score of 68% and contents score of 59% placed it below average for both (these were 71% for buildings and 68% for contents).
Its contents cover includes some accidental damage cover as standard (including glass and sanitary ware) – which not all policies will – and it also covers stolen keys. It’ll also cover cash stolen from the home (up to £750).
However, lost keys aren’t covered, and we noticed the policy had a shorter than usual unoccupancy period of 30 days. If your home is left unoccupied for longer than this, your cover is restricted and you may not be able to make certain claims.
With most policies, unoccupancy periods are for 60 days or longer.
If you’re trying to reduce your energy bill by adding heat pumps or solar panels to your home, these come protected as standard with Esure’s policy.

Esure offers a discount if you take out both buildings and contents cover.
Want to pay monthly? Esure charges interest (the rate of which varies), so you might be better off paying annually on an interest-free credit card.

Esure's policy was a fairly low performer in our analysis of cover.
And, although we weren't able to review its service in our surveys, the most recent industry data suggests Esure pays out claims at lower-than-average rates.
For these reasons, we can't recommend buying its policies.
