‘£10,000 home office cover’

Dean Sobers, Which? home insurance expert, says:

Dean Sobers

Of 76 buildings policies rated, Nationwide’s Enhanced policy scored 75%, compared to an average of 71%. Unfortunately, a mediocre customer score meant it couldn't be a Best Buy.  The Enhanced contents policy was a little less impressive with a score of 71%, compared to an average of 68%. However, it does offer £10,000 for home office contents as well as a generous £50,000 of cover if your home become uninhabitable due to damage to your contents.

Where Nationwide's Enhanced contents policy has an unlimited sum insured, the Essentials contents policy has a maximum of £50,000, and it has less generous cover for alternative accommodation (£25,000) and business equipment (£5,000). It also doesn't cover students' belongings or matching sets (undamaged items in a suite or set if one part is damaged beyond repair and a match cannot be found) and has lower levels of cover for contents in the open and in outbuildings. However, like the Enhanced policy, it offers £1,000 of cover for lost or stolen keys and £1,000 to replace cash in the home that has been lost or damaged.

‘No fees’

Nationwide does not charge fees and it doesn't impose an APR for paying monthly. This is good news, as more than half of providers we surveyed charge an APR with a third charging more than 25%, and if you need to make a change to your policy, more than 40% will charge you for doing so - some up to £30.
