‘Below-average buildings and contents cover’

Dean Sobers, Which? home insurance expert, says:

Dean Sobers

Uinsure’s policy scores were both below average. It achieved 67% for buildings cover (vs an average of 71%) and 62% for contents cover (vs 67%).

Among its plusses was an optional legal expenses add-on with £150,000 cover. Some other policies offered a third of this.

Its accidental damage cover (which is mostly an optional add-on) includes damage caused by cleaning, which wasn’t included in the majority of policies.

It lost points for its restrictive limit for contents stolen or damaged when in the open or in outbuildings – cover was reduced to £1,000. It also had some comparatively high compulsory excesses such as £250 for personal possessions cover. With the majority of policies, the excess was half this or less.

Cash

While cover for individual belongings is typically £2,000 or more, contents policies tend to be much more restrictive when it comes to cash.

In the majority of policies we looked at, cash in the home was covered for between £250 and £750. Uinsure’s contents policy was much more generous in this respect, with a cash in the home limit of £1,500.

How good is Uinsure at handling claims?

Uinsure is underwritten by Ageas Insurance Limited, Allianz Insurance Plc, Axa Insurance UK Plc, Covea Insurance Plc and Integra Insurance Solutions Limited. With buildings-only policies, these underwriters accepted 55-75% of claims (it varied by underwriter) – the industry average is 62%. Some 5-25% of claimants with this type of policy lodged a complaint, while the average is 13%.

Meanwhile, the underwriters accepted 80-90% of claims on contents-only policies, which is higher than the average of 71%. Some 0-15% of claimants complained – 7% is the average.

When it came to claims on combined policies, the underwriters accepted 65-85% of claims – the average is 71%. Some 5-25% of claimants complained, while 12% is the industry average.

How can you save money on Uinsure home insurance?

It's not easy to compare Uinsure prices with those of other insurers. You can get a quote over the phone, on its website and via brokers, but it doesn't appear on comparison sites. But it's still worth checking out what the competition offers through other channels.

You may be able to get a discount if you buy Uinsure buildings and contents cover together.

Want to pay monthly? Uinsure charges interest of 23.7% APR, so you might be better off paying annually on an interest-free credit card.

The above information is correct as of August 2026. For more ways to save money when buying insurance, see our guide.

How does Uinsure compare with other providers?

While we didn't have enough feedback from claimants to calculate a customer score for Uinsure, its standard buildings policy scored 67% and ranks joint 29th in our standard buildings cover table. Virgin Money's standard buildings policy ranked the same.

As for contents insurance, its standard policy scored 62% – again the same as Virgin Money's standard contents cover – and sits in joint 25th among standard policies.

Uinsure home insurance: How can you claim?

You can make a claim by visiting the dedicated claims page at Unisure. Or call 0344 844 3844.

Should you buy Uinsure home insurance?

Probably not. There were better alternatives in terms of cover, and we weren’t impressed by the claims records of its underwriters.
