Get a quoteDean Sobers, Which? home insurance expert, says:
Lloyds Bank’s Silver policy achieved a buildings policy score of 74%, beating the 71% average score. And we gave the policy’s contents cover a score of 71%, which is about the same distance above the contents policy average (68%).
The policy offers £100,000 cover for alternative accommodation in the event that your home becomes uninhabitable and you need to stay elsewhere while repairs are made. It also picked up points for providing full accidental damage cover as standard, which is a relative rarity with home insurance policies.
It does have some drawbacks, though. These include a comparatively high excess of £500 for escape of water and it doesn’t define what is meant by ‘flood’ in its policy wording.
Lloyds’ product did well in our analysis of key cover, replacing external locks and keys, and covering costs of locksmiths and call-out charges in the event of keys going missing or being stolen.
Lloyds Bank offers two additional levels of home insurance: Bronze and Gold.
Bronze was a below-average – although not terrible – scorer. We gave its buildings cover 69% and its contents cover 66% (compared with averages of 71% and 68%, respectively). Notably, it offers no accidental damage cover or legal protection cover.
Gold earned the same scores as Silver – the difference between the two being that you can insure higher-value property and possessions under Gold.
Despite doing well in our policy analysis, a lower-than-average customer score and lower-than-average customer claims acceptance rates at the time of our research held back Lloyds Bank's Silver and Gold products from becoming Best Buys.
We asked Lloyds Bank customers who have recently made a claim how they felt about their home insurance.
Lloyds Bank received a customer score of 67% – joint-12th out of 17 providers rated, alongside Nationwide. And it scored 67% when we asked people to rate its claims handling – joint-10th out of 24 brands compared. See the list of results here.
When we asked more about the rating customers gave Lloyds Bank, we were told 'it's clear and covered most things I need to cover', but 'it's just not anything special'.
That said, when making a claim, another customer said: 'From the moment I reported the issue, the team was responsive and communicated clearly about what steps to take next.'

Perhaps, if you're getting offered a low price, as Lloyds' Silver and Gold policies had slightly above-average policy scores.
However, it's not a Which? Recommended Provider and doesn't have any Best Buy policies, so you could do better elsewhere.
