How good are Admiral's car insurance policies?

Admiral's standard Admiral policy scored 59%, just below the average score of 61%.

It includes an 'uninsured driver promise', which means you won't lose a no-claims discount (NCD) or need to pay an excess if an uninsured driver was at fault in an accident (meaning you need to claim with Admiral). However, you will need to obtain the driver's details to demonstrate they were uninsured.

It also guarantees repairs that it organises, for as long as you own the vehicle - which only a minority of policies do.

Areas in which it fell down included low levels of cover for windscreen and windows damage, and a high cancellation fee of £60.

Personal belongings

Admiral's personal belongings cover provides up to £200 per claim (a below-average amount). However, it does cover mobile phones, laptops and tablets, which are commonly excluded.

Admiral vs Admiral Essential, Gold and Platinum

Admiral's Essential policy offers a lower level of cover than the standard Admiral policy and earned 55% in our analysis - in the bottom 40% of policies rated.

Features that are stripped out of this policy include windscreen cover, personal belongings cover and 'new car replacement' (if you have a new car, this is a pledge to provide a like-for-like replacement if it's stolen or damaged beyond repair).

Admiral's pricier Gold and Platinum policies both received 59% in our analysis - higher than the standard Admiral policy's score but still below average. A notable perk with the Platinum policy is the inclusion of breakdown cover, which isn't reflected in our scoring.

Admiral FAQs

How can I cancel Admiral car insurance?

To cancel your car insurance with Admiral, you can choose from these options:

Phone: call 0333 220 2000 weekdays between 8am and 7pm, between 9am and 3pm on Saturdays and 9.30am and 4pm on Sundays.

Live chat: use the live chat feature on Admiral's website.

Can I drive any car with Admiral comprehensive insurance?

Like most comprehensive policies, Admiral's policies include Driving Other Cars (DOC) cover. As the name suggests, this covers you for driving vehicles other than the one named on your Admiral policy.

However, the cover isn't intended for sustained or everyday use - you won't get full comprehensive cover when driving another car, but third-party cover only. This means that it will pay for damage or injury caused by you to other road users, but not for anything that happens to the car you're driving.
