LV is a Which? Recommended Provider and its policy is a Which? best buy.
With a policy score of 77%, LV's policy held joint first place in our tables, from 76 policies we examined.
Among its highlights, LV's policy will pay to get you to your destination or for overnight accommodation if an accident strands you on route.
In addition, its no-claims discount protection doesn't limit the number of claims it shields your bonus from in a year (the limit is typically two claims over three years).
One area in which it fared less well than other policies in our analysis is that it doesn't offer a courtesy car as standard – you need to pay extra for this to be included.
LV's policy score wasn't earned through excellence in a few choice areas, but more widely. Its policy was the most consistent high-scorer in our analysis, doing well in 68 of the 79 cover areas we assessed.
If you buy LV's policies through a comparison website, you'll have the choice of LV Extra and LV Plus options to select, in addition to the standard policy.
Extra includes motor legal protection (which is optional in the standard policy), while Plus guarantees a hire car to use while your car is under repair.
We asked LV customers who have recently made a claim how they felt about their car insurance.
LV received a 71% customer score, placing it second of the 19 car insurers we received sufficient responses for in our customer survey.
Customers were also asked to rate their most recent claim. LV received a score of 76%, again placing it second out of 19 companies we scored.
