With an impressive score of 69%, Allianz’s Gold policy was in the top fifth of policies we rated. Unfortunately, it was eliminated from Best Buy consideration because its customer and claims scores were below average.
We were impressed by various aspects of its cover. These included £500 of onward travel cover – a payment to help you reach your destination if an accident strands you en route. It also includes (as standard) a courtesy car if yours is written off or stolen. This is usually an optional extra.
On the flipside, we thought it had comparatively high compulsory excesses for fire, theft and accidental damage, at £250. Also, if it has reason to cancel your policy, it will offer only five days notice; with most policies the notice period was 7-14 days.
If you drive your car overseas, Allianz’s Gold policy has some of the most generous provisions, providing 180 days overseas cover as standard.
Allianz’s mid-tier Silver policy also impressed in our analysis – with its 67% score placing it in the top 40% policies we rated.
Its Bronze policy did less well, mustering 49%. With higher excesses and lacking various features such as driving other cars, misfuelling or personal possessions cover, it sat in the bottom fifth of our table.
We asked Allianz customers who have recently made a claim how they felt about their car insurance.
Allianz earned a customer score of 75%, which places it in the middle of our customer satisfaction table (6th out of 12), alongside Admiral car insurance and the AA car insurance.
It scored 73% when assessed specifically for its claims service (11th out of 14). The average customer and claims scores were 76% and 75%.
One policyholder who highly rated Allianz's customer service commented that they felt 'valued and respected' and the policy was 'jargon free'. But another customer thought the claims process 'isn't super clear'.
Here's how customers rated Allianz in various areas of service:
| How comprehensive the policy cover is | |
| How affordable the policies are | |
| How thorough the application process is | - |
| Clarity of policy | |
| Dealing with queries | |
| Fair treatment of long-standing customers | - |

Allianz's policies should be the same price and have the same level of cover regardless of how they're purchased. However, it's always sensible to use comparison websites to see how its prices compare against other insurers.
There is no discount if you buy a policy for more than one car.
You can choose to pay your premium in one go or in monthly instalments. Paying monthly usually costs more overall. This is because paying by instalments is usually provided as a form of credit, with interest or other charges applied.
When we reviewed Allianz's policies, its rate for paying in monthly instalments was 19.1% APR. This was only slightly less than the average rate (20.49% APR) charged among providers that told us their rates.
It would still be cheaper to pay annually and spread the cost with an interest-free purchase credit card.
Above information correct as of December 2025.
Allianz's customer score of 75% placed it in sixth spot (out of 12) in our customer score table alongside Admiral and the AA, and just slightly behind LV with 76%. Its claims score of 73% landed it in 11th place – Admiral, Direct Line and Lloyds Bank all scored 74%.
With a policy score of 69%, Allianz's premium cover is just behind two policies from Avivia – Premium and Online – which both scored 70%.
Allianz's Silver cover scored 67%, behind standard policies from Sheilas' Wheels, Saga, First Alternative and Co-op Insurance, and a premium Gold policy from Tesco. These each earned 68%.
If you need to make a claim with Allianz car insurance, you can call 0330 678 5557 or start a claim online.
Maybe, if the price is very competitive. We liked its cover in theory – but feedback from claimants was more muted.
