What does Tesco Bank offer?

Tesco Personal Finance was born out of a partnership between Tesco plc and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in 1997. In 2008, Tesco bought out RBS's share and rebranded as Tesco Bank, which today offers a wide range of financial products, from home insurance to car insurance, credit cards, personal loans and mortgages.

Tesco Bank offers insurance for cats and dogs, and its policies are underwritten by Royal & Sun Alliance Ltd.

We've reviewed the following types of policies:

Lifetime cover pet insurance

Lifetime cover is the most comprehensive pet insurance on the market and pays out for ongoing issues your pet might have throughout its lifetime.

Non-lifetime cover pet insurance

Non-lifetime cover is less comprehensive. It covers a limited time period and excludes certain conditions after you hit your claims limit.

Accident-only pet insurance

Accident-only pet insurance provides a fixed sum of money for each accidental injury to help pay for your pet’s treatment. It's the cheapest type of pet insurance policy but excludes cover for illness.

How we analyse pet insurance

We analyse and rate 21 elements of cat insurance policies and 24 elements of dog insurance policies - plus how much each pays in vet fees - to come up with the overall policy score.

Different policy elements are enhanced or reduced within the policy score, to reflect the relative importance of each. For example, the amount a policy pays for vet fees and how this money is made available counts for more in the score than the amount provided for holiday cancellation.

To determine the customer score, we surveyed 1,342 Which? members who have a pet insurance policy in November 2021. The customer score reflects customers' overall satisfaction with the brand and their likelihood to recommend the provider. We also surveyed 784 members who had made a claim within the past five years. The claims score reflects the customers' satisfaction and likelihood to recommend their provider based on their most recent claim.
