We've reviewed Beam's standard car insurance cover, available to drivers aged 17 to 99. We didn't receive feedback from enough customers to rate its levels of service.

'Beam offers middling cover'

Dean Sobers, Which? car insurance expert, says:

Beam’s policy had an exactly average score of 62%, and so ranked in the middle of our table.

It has unlimited cover for replacing a damaged child car seat.

Like most policies we looked at, if you have a new car and it’s written off or stolen, Beam will offer you a new car of the same make and model instead of a cash payment.

Unlike most policies, which consider cars up to 12 months old to qualify as ‘new’, Beam’s slightly more flexible definition includes cars up to 13 months old.

However, we also noticed a high cancellation fee of £61 if you choose to switch before renewal, and comparatively low cover for personal belongings in your car, at £250.

Medical expenses

Notably, it offered £400 cover for medical expenses, considerably above average. This cover allows you to claim for prescription costs, physiotherapy, dental treatment and opticians' costs stemming from a car accident.

How good is Beam at handling claims?

Beam’s panel of underwriters – AA Underwriting Insurance Company, Ageas and Axa – accepted 95-100% of car insurance claims in 2024. This was around the average (98.8%) for the market.

Of customers who claimed, 0-5% made a complaint, which is below average (6.9%).

How can you save money on Beam car insurance?

You can buy Beam's standard car insurance policy only from the following comparison websites:

  • Compare the Market
  • Confused.com
  • GoCompare
  • MoneySuperMarket

There's no discount if you buy a policy for more than one car.

Want to pay monthly?

You can choose to pay your premium in one go or in monthly instalments. Paying monthly usually costs more overall. This is because paying by instalments is usually provided as a form of credit, with interest or other charges applied.

When we reviewed Beam's car insurance, its rate for paying in monthly instalments was 26.9% APR. This was above the average rate (20.49% APR) charged among providers that told us their rates.

It would be cheaper to pay annually and spread the cost with an interest-free purchase credit card.

The above information is correct as of December 2025.

How does Beam compare with other providers?

With a policy score of 62%, Beam's standard car insurance isn't rated quite so highly as the AA's Gold policy, Admiral's standard and Littlebox policies, and Churchill's Comprehensive cover.  These each scored 63%.

Should you buy Beam car insurance?

We think there are better alternatives, but if the price is right it could be worth considering.
