 Best controller December deals

Our pick: PlayStation 5 DualSense controller

Average price in the past six months: £60.98 Cheapest price in the past six months: £42.99

PlayStation Dualsense controller

We like: Rechargeable – no batteries required

Watch out for: No programmable buttons

If you're looking to do some couch co-op or play some split-screen games with friends or siblings, now is a good time to pick up an extra controller. Even if you're not gaming on a PS5, you can use DualSense controllers to play games on PC, Mac or Android devices.

Another bargain: Xbox Elite Series 2 controller

Average price in the last six months: £117.30. Cheapest price in past six months: £88

Xbox Elite Series 2 controller

We like: Rechargeable – no AA batteries required

Watch out for: Some retailers have it on permanent discount

While it can cost nearly double that of a standard wireless Xbox controller, this one has several programmable buttons you can assign specific controls to.

You can also fine-tune the triggers, adjust the tension of the thumbsticks, and save up to three separate controller profiles.

 Best Steam Deck deal

Steam Deck 256GB LCD

Average price in the past six months: £349. Cheapest price in the past six months: £279.20

Steam Deck

Pick up this bargain direct from Valve (£279.20).

We like: Significantly cheaper than other handheld PCs

Watch out for: OLED model not on sale

If you're looking for a device that can handle PC gaming on the go, the Steam Deck might be a good choice for you. It's got a 256GB internal SSD, but you can add a micro SD card to expand your gaming storage.

Just know that only the LCD model has a discount. You'll still need to shell out extra cash for an OLED model.

 Best VR Headset deals

Meta Quest 3s (128GB)

Average price in the past six months: £279.34. Cheapest price in the past six months: £229

Buy directly from Meta, or compare prices below:

We like: More affordable for a standalone

Watch out for: Lower resolution and less storage than Meta Quest 3

This mixed-reality VR headset has similar specs and features to Meta's flagship headset, the Meta Quest 3, but costs significantly less.

The catch? There's less resolution per eye in the headset at 1,832x1,920 (compared to 2,064x2,208 on the regular Quest 3). This can make some things look a bit more blurry in VR, but we think the savings are worth it.

PS VR 2 Headset

Average price in the past six months: £426.98 Cheapest price in the past six months: £299

PlayStation VR 2 headset and controllers

We like: Exclusive titles and experiences

Watch out for: Need a PS5 in order to use

If you already have a PlayStation 5 and want to get into the digital worlds of VR, now's a good opportunity to pick up Sony's PS5-specfic headset.

This deal doesn't come with any games, so you'll need to buy them separately.

Best PS5 deals

PlayStation 5 Slim (Digital)

Average price in the last six months: £399.79. Cheapest Price in the last six months: £280

PS5 Slim
We spotted this deal for its cheapest-ever at EE for £280.

We like: Includes controller

Watch out for: Need to buy a separate disc drive if you want to play physical games

While it's cheaper than the regular PS5 Slim, this digital-only version of the console can't play physical games. Other than that, the hardware of this PS5 is the same as a standard model.

That said, if you want to add a disc drive at a later date you can buy one separately for an added cost. You can get one SQUIRREL_TEXT_50010999

This is the best deal on a PS5 currently, with price tags hitting new lows at £280 from EE.

Best Xbox deals

Xbox Series S (512GB model)

Average price in the last six months: £290.36 Cheapest price in past six months: £253.97

A white Xbox series S and controller

We like: 'Play Anywhere' games means you can play your games on PC, too

Watch out for: No disc drive, digital games only

Xboxes this year have had the opposite of deals – Microsoft increased the prices on both the Series S and X.

There were significant discounts on the Xbox last year. We haven't seen prices match those lows but, we'll be making sure to keep this page updated once we spot some better deals.

 Best Nintendo Switch deal

Our pick: Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World

Average price in the last six months: £429.99. Cheapest price in the past six months: £399.99

A switch 2 with Mario Kart

We like: Better specs

Watch out for: Still pricey

The Switch 2 launched a few months ago, so our hopes for any deals are quite low. Most bundle deals available right now won't actually save you much money on the new console either – except this one.

This deal comes with the highly anticipated Mario Kart World, and you'd be saving £41 compared to buying each separately. Any money off from that is an added bonus.

We've found more bundle deals in our guide on the best Nintendo Switch December deals.

Best deal on the Asus ROG Xbox Ally

Average price in the last six months: £499.99 Cheapest Price in the last six months: £498.99

ASUS ROG Xbox Ally

We like: Can play both Xbox and PC games on one handheld

Watch out for: Not far off specs-wise from the cheaper Steam Deck, but no OLED screen

While it might not be as souped-up as the premium Xbox Ally X, this model uses the same modified version of Windows that integrates better with Xbox.

This new handheld released on 16 October in the UK, so deals aren't great – the biggest discount we've seen is just £1.99.

Best TV gaming deal

Samsung QE50QN90F

Average price in the past six months: £1,068. Cheapest price in the past six months: £749

Samsung QE50QN90F television

We like: Simple operating system

We don't like: Fiddly remote

This 50-inch Neo QLED TV has a lot of the bells and whistles great for gaming. It's got a 165Hz screen, variable refresh rate tech, and supports FreeSync.

You'll be able to game in 4K with this model – all for a cheaper price than a similarly-specced OLED TV.

Check out the full Samsung QE50QN90F review to see how this one scored in our tests.

Best Fire TV Stick gaming deal

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K streaming device

Average price in the past six months: £52.99 Lowest price in the past six months: £24.99

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K

We like: Xbox game streaming

Watch out for: Needs to be powered by an outlet

Amazon's 4k Fire Stick aims to bring top-quality streaming experiences to your home by connecting to wi-fi 6 and streaming in 4K Ultra HD.

One standout feature of this model is that it's the only streaming media player with the Xbox app, which means you can stream games through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and cloud gaming.

Where can I find December deals on games?

There are several retailers that will have deals on games for every console over December. Below, we've broken down where you can easily find deals on games.
