The Which? care services directory

On Which? Later Life Care we have a care services directory that provides comprehensive listings of regulated care services throughout the UK, including care homes, nursing homes, home care services and support groups.

The directory includes a listing for all care services that are registered with one of the four UK care regulators – the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England; the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) in Northern Ireland; the Care Inspectorate in Scotland; and the Care Inspectorate Wales. As long as a care service is registered with one of the regulators, it will automatically be included in our directory. The information is updated on a monthly basis.

The standard information we include for care homes and home care services – including names, contact information and accommodation details – is provided by the relevant care regulator. For services in England and Scotland, listings also include inspection ratings and links to the latest inspection report.

Personalise your care home profile by adding extra information

As well as the regulators’ data that we already include, we also invite care homes to provide additional information about their service and facilities.

This additional information can include:

  • a brief description of your care home: the basics will do
  • details of the care services you provide: we give you a list to tick the relevant services
  • details of the facilities on offer: another tick list.

If you would like to provide this additional information about your care home, please complete the short form below.

Benefits of adding extra details for a care home

  • Reach a wider audience: traffic to our site is increasing month on month
  • be promoted online
  • keep up with the competition
  • it’s completely free and will remain that way.

You’ll be in great company as some of the largest care groups in the country have already signed up, including HC-One, Caring Homes and Shaw Healthcare Group. Regardless of size, we’re offering the same service to all registered care homes.

Care services directory – FAQs

Why is our service not included in the directory?

The directory includes care services that have been registered with the relevant regulatory authority. If it is not a registered service, it will not be included in the directory. Once a service has been registered, it will automatically be included in our directory. Please be aware, however, that if the service has been very recently registered or it has not yet been inspected, then there may be a delay before it appears in our listings. Once the results of an inspection have been published, it can take 1–2 months before the updated data is displayed in our directory.

Can we update our details or add extra information?

Care homes and nursing homes can add a description of their service plus details of additional facilities. See above, ‘Personalise your care home profile by adding extra information’.

What if I need to add information for more than one care home?

If you are a care home group and would like to supply information for multiple homes, we can send you a spreadsheet to make life easier. Email us at laterlifecare@which.co.uk.

Can I provide extra information about a home care service?

Currently, the option to add extra information is only available for residential care homes, not for providers of home care services.

Information for support groups

Our directory also includes details of local groups that provide additional support for carers and people living with dementia. This information is compiled in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society. If you would like to add details of a local support group to our directory, please contact the Alzheimer’s Society in the first instance and request to have the group added to their Dementia Connect directory.
