Scoring 73%, LV's policy got to third place (out of 66 policies) in our table and was a Best Buy.
It did well in our analysis, virtually across the board – with highlights including a lifetime guarantee on repairs it organises, and payments to get you to your destination or for overnight accommodation if an accident means you're stranded away from home.
One area in which it fared less well than other policies was that it doesn’t offer a courtesy car as standard – you need to pay extra for this to be included.
An arguably unfair quirk of car insurance is that if you or a partner share a car and policy, typically only one of you – the main driver – will get to build a no-claims discount. The secondary driver won’t progress along the scale, even if they’ve been driving regularly and have a claims-free history.
One benefit with LV is that the policy’s NCD is transferable between spouses and partners, so if you switch who the main driver is, they won't need to start from scratch.
We asked LV customers who've recently made a claim how they felt about their car insurance.
LV earned a customer score of 76%, which places it in the top half of our customer satisfaction table (5th out of 12). It scored 75% (the same as the AA) when assessed specifically for its claims service (joint 6th out of 14). The average customer score was 76%, and the claims score was 75%.
One policyholder who rated LV's customer service highly commented that the insurer was 'easy to deal with' and they'd experienced a 'fast and prompt claims process'. But another customer didn't agree, after their claim 'took quite a long time to sort out'.
Here's how customers rated LV in various areas of service:
| How comprehensive the policy cover is | |
| How affordable the policies are | |
| How thorough the application process is | - |
| Clarity of policy | |
| Dealing with queries | |
| Fair treatment of long-standing customers | - |

LV's car insurance policy is available on the following price comparison websites:
LV offers other policies with different elements of cover added in: LV Extra, which includes legal expenses, and LV Plus, which includes a guaranteed hire car.
It offers a 5% discount if you already own an LV home insurance policy.
There is no discount if you buy a policy for more than one car.
You can choose to pay your premium in one go or in monthly instalments. Paying monthly usually costs more overall. This is because paying by instalments is usually provided as a form of credit – with interest or other charges applied.
When we reviewed LV's car insurance policy, its rate for paying in monthly instalments was 19.1% APR. This was only slightly less than the average rate (20.49% APR) charged among providers that told us their rates.
It would still be cheaper to pay annually and spread the cost with an interest-free purchase credit card.
Above information correct as of December 2025.
LV's customer score of 76% placed it in 5th position (out of 12) in our customer satisfaction table, just behind Axa with 78%. Its claims score of 75% landed it in 6th place (out of 14) alongside the AA, with esure in the spot above with 77%.
With a policy score of 73%, LV's car insurance cover sits in the top three of all policies rated. Only Saga's Plus and Select car insurance policies have higher policy scores – 77% and 75%, respectively.
If you need to make a claim with LV car insurance, call 0330 678 5550, or 0330 678 5590 for windscreen or glass damage claims. Windscreen and glass claims won't affect your no-claims discount.
Yes, if the price is competitive. LV performed excellently in our analysis.
