Best Echo speaker deals

Amazon Echo Show 5 (3rd generation)

Cheapest-ever price on Amazon? No
Average price in the past six months: £94
Cheapest price in the past six months: £50

• 5.5-inch display
• Built-in camera
• Doubles up as a digital photoframe

We like: Simple set up with voice control

We don't like: The screen is smaller than most smartphones

The Echo Show 5 is an Alexa-powered smart display with a compact 5.5-inch screen, making it the smallest of Amazon's smart displays and well-suited for bedrooms. It can serve as a bedside alarm clock, be controlled by voice, provide weather updates each morning, and display a slideshow of your favourite pictures when not in use.

The 2Mp camera enables video calls to other Alexa users and allows you to drop in or check on the room remotely, similar to a security camera.

Best Fire Stick deals

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Select

Cheapest-ever price on Amazon? No
Average price in the past six months: £42
Cheapest price in the past six months: £20

• 4K ultra-had, HSR10+
• Alexa voice search
• 8GB storage

We like: Budget-friendly 4K streaming

Watch out for: Doesn’t have Dolby Atmos surround sound support

If you’re on a budget and looking for a way to add an easy-to-use smart interface to your 4K TV, the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Select is one of the most affordable options. You’ll be able to watch TV shows and movies in ultra HD quality from all of your favourite apps, including Disney+ and Netflix.

The downside is there’s quite a limited amount of storage and it uses an older version of wi-fi than the pricier devices, which could potentially slow it down.

Paul Lester, Which? Tech editor says:

'You might not think you need one if you already have a smart TV, but the slick and intuitive control and superb range of apps on Amazon’s streamer makes it tough to beat.

'Alexa-powered voice control is a really helpful feature to look out for – It makes it easy to search for movies and TV shows, control playback, and even smart home devices with a spoken command.'

Cheapest price in the past six months: £179

• In-ear headphones
• IPX4 water and sweat resistant
• Active noise-cancellation

We like: Heart-rate monitor built into the headphone bud

We don't like: Ear hook design won't be for everyone

A pair of wireless earbuds with ear hooks to keep them securely in place, Apple's Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 could be worth considering for workouts. They're water and sweat-resistant, so should endure a heavy gym session, and there's even a heart rate monitor built in to give you real-time readings on your phone.

Active noise cancelling will help you stay focused, without distractions from the outside world, and they come with a charging case featuring Qi wireless charging.

• Weighs 66.6g
• 496 x 416 px. resolution

We like: Huge list of smart features

We don't like: Works better with Apple products than Android

This is Apple's newest smartwatch. It keeps the classic look but with a much thinner design, intended to make it more comfortable to wear while you're awake and asleep. The screen is designed to be tougher, too – aluminium models now have Ion-X glass that is touted as two times more scratch-resistant.

It's packed with health and fitness tracking sensors, including advanced features like taking ECG readings and an SpO2 sensor to measure blood oxygen levels. There is also a fall detection feature to automatically call emergency services if it detects a hard fall.

The Fitbit Charge 6 can also track your heart rate and monitor your blood oxygen (SpO2) levels although the latter is only active while you're sleeping. As with all consumer wearable devices, never rely on it as a medical device and consult your GP if you have concerns.

How to return Amazon purchases

If you buy a product on Amazon Prime Day and it arrives on your doorstep damaged, the retailer is fully responsible.

Under the Consumer Rights Act, your purchase needs to be of satisfactory quality (not faulty or damaged), fit for purpose and as described. If your Prime Day product doesn't meet one of these requirements, the retailer (not the manufacturer) is in breach of the Consumer Rights Act.

Amazon will refund the cost of sending an item back if it was sold or dispatched by Amazon. If the item you bought isn't eligible for a free return, and you’re using a pre-paid return label, Amazon will deduct the cost of the return from your refund.

You can return your item within 30 days even if it isn't faulty or damaged.

For expert advice on returning goods you've bought online, see our in-depth guide to returns and refunds.

How to recycle your old tech

If you're looking to replace older technology by shopping in the Prime Day sale, make sure you dispose of your outdated items in a responsible way.

You have a few options if you want to offload your unwanted electronics. Kerbside collection is suitable for small electrical items – in many cases, your local council will collect smaller items such as toasters and kettles. Alternatively, you can drop items at a local recycling centre.

For more details on how to get rid of your unused gadgets, check our advice on how to recycle electrical items.
